    Biography

My love for children led me to Boston Children's Hospital to begin my nursing career.  As Assistant Head Nurse on the Clinical Research Unit, I assisted in the development of the first bone marrow transplant unit.  I also worked closely with the child abuse team led by Eli Neuberger.  That passion led to an 11 year sabbatical from nursing to adopt 12 special needs and abused children.  Rejoining the nursing workforce I specialized in Pediatric Oncology. I joined Dana-Farber 15 years ago as a Clinical Specialist and then Clinical Director of the Jimmy Fund Clinic.  After personal tragedies that made working with children difficult, I turned to the adult oncology teams as a Clinical Specialist. I participated in the development of an IV team in centralized laboratory services and have developed innovative evidence based techniques for central line care and venous assessment in the oncology patient. My special interest is evidence-based practice. I served on the project team of the ONS Institute for Evidence-Based Practice.  I am a reviewer for ONS Putting Evidence Into Practice.  I have served on the Evidence Based Practice Committee of APHON. I have presented on oncology topics nationally, published in peer-reviewed journals, authored chapters for oncology textbooks and developed pediatric patient education materials.
