    Biography

I came to nursing in a very roundabout way. I earned my first bachelor’s degree in Art and Sociology at University of California, Santa Cruz. Following that, I got my emergency teaching credential in California and taught for three years before feeling like I needed something more. I moved to Boston where I began working as a receptionist at Planned Parenthood. I witnessed the amazing work the nurses did there with the patients, and saw education applied in the healthcare setting. That is when I realized I wanted to be a nurse.

I went back for a second bachelor’s degree at the University of Massachusetts Boston. I currently have a BSN and RN. In my final semester of nursing school I was fortunate to work on an inpatient cancer floor at Boston Medical Center. I fell in love with cancer care and the unique relationships nurses formed with the patients and their families. After I graduated I wanted to work as an oncology nurse and knew that I wanted to come to Dana-Farber (a Mecca in cancer care and research). Working in a Harvard institution whose goal is not just to treat cancer but to eradicate it, is exactly where I wanted to be. I found that the providers and staff who are drawn to working here all share the same passion for taking care of patients with cancer and their families, as well as continuing our exciting research to move closer to a cure.
